Mobile app marketing video: a practical guide
What an app marketing video is for, and how it differs from a store listing video.
Marketing video vs. store listing video
An App Store Preview or Google Play promo video has to meet the platform's own technical rules — Apple, for example, requires 15–30 second App Previews using device-captured footage that demonstrates real app functionality. A marketing video has no such constraint: it lives on social media, your website, or a launch post, and its only job is to get someone to tap through.
Launchreel makes marketing videos, not store listing videos. If you need an App Store Preview, you'll need actual on-device screen recordings edited to Apple's current spec.
Where a screenshot-based video works well

- Landing-page product teasers — see app promo videos
- Product Hunt galleries — see Product Hunt videos
- Quick product walkthroughs — see app demo videos
What to avoid
Don't claim App Store Preview compliance for a screenshot montage. Don't use official Apple or Google badges in ways that alter their appearance or imply an endorsement that doesn't exist. Keep the video's claims about your app accurate — deceptive advertising rules apply to a 15-second video the same as they do to any other ad.
